Zealous Love for God
There is a really unusual event in the Lord’s life recorded in John 2:13-22.
Chasing people with a whip, pitching tables over, issuing “how dare you” statements. Are these the actions of a man trying to gain a following? Didn’t Jesus know he was offending the power brokers? How was he going to draw a crowd with this kind of behavior?
Fortunately, Jesus wasn’t concerned with any of those results. What we get to see, however, is a glimpse of Jesus’ real priorities. He was not concerned with his public image, but zeal for the things of God consumed him. In the midst of accomplishing his mission, investing in the group of men who would start his church, teaching, healing, etc. it was zealous love for God that consumed him. His passion erupted this day and business people were sent scurrying. Jesus shows us that his love for God is a zealous love.
So what is zealous love for God doing in our lives? What “tables” need to be overturned?

I have determined to overturn the table of complacency wherever it shows up…and particularly if it shows up in the “temple.” The truth needs to be proclaimed and I will not be quiet about it. For it is the truth that sets us free.
Your statement “He was not concerned with His public image, but zeal for the things of God consumed him,” was a great thought. Love it.
